Not too far away from the jostling crowds and patrolled beaches of Sentosa lies one of Singapore’s (almost) best-kept secrets, Lazarus Island Beach (Also known as Eagle Bay, part of the Singapore Southern Islands. Lazarus Island Beach is the most popular boating destination for charterers, jetskis, kayakers, and private boats, many might not know this but the 800m beach was totally reclaimed and built between Seringat Island and Lazarus Island in the early 2000’s by Singapore Tourism Board. Visitors are advised to pack everything they need – including mats, towels, water and other beverages, and whatever you do, take it all the rubbish back with you as there are no bins on the islands
General Info
Once a small island on its own, today Lazarus Island has linked with other small islands including St John’s and Seringat Island making up a portion of the Singapore Southern Islands. Lazarus Island Beach is an 800m long coved beach of white sand, clear, and relatively clean water. Popular with boaters and family or friends taking a ferry, the beach provides both serenity and cleanliness and is the ideal spot to work on your sun-tan without the crowds. Make sure you come prepared, however, as there are no shops or restaurants in Lazarus.
Highlights
The island’s C-shaped lagoon has one of Singapore’s cleanest, whitest, and sandiest beaches – perfect for sunbathing away from crowds – the gentle runoff of sand allows for easy walking in the water without any strong currents.
Don’t be surprised if you see otters playing in the water, large monitor lizards on the rocks, schools of fish, and even the resident cats.
You can now rent bikes and other toys on the island
Although it island permitted, this would be great place for a beach fire, bbq, fishing and camping overnight. 🙂
Getting There
Approximate Position:1°13’40.0″N 103°51’12.3″E
Berthing | Landing: No jetty available on the beachside, generally an easy beach anchorage but can have swell onshore wind during monsoon seasons. Be on the lookout for anchor dragging during squalls.
- Shallow draft boats can come in closer on the north and south parts of the bay, this is also a good area to be in during monsoon season
- Even if a shallow draft boat, it’s a good rule to keep at least 2M under you at all times.
- The tide run-off from the beach has caught many by surprise, be sure to keep a lookout and adjust your anchoring if getting below 2m..
- Ensure your anchor is secure, boats have dragged anchor in short squalls and ended up on the beach.
Beginner tips
- A good place to practice your anchor lengths but make sure you don’t let out too much and be swinging into another boat
- Feel your anchor hold your boat, most of the time the anchor and chain will hold in position but if you get a storm your boat could drag anchor and you could head towards shore.
