Pulau Ubin is the most famous outlying island in the north of Singapore, known for an array of island activities such as biking, kayaking, hiking, camping, fishing, and getting in touch with nature where you can still find traditional kampongs (villages) to visit. Kayaking is the more popular marine activity, at high tides, you can go all the way through the island’s waterways. Boat drop off/pick up happen at the main ferry jetty, with a shallow area close by to anchor and wait. Ketam Channel is possibly the most tranquil and peaceful place in all of Singapore. North of the island is fenced up with a few fish farms sprawled out.
General Info on Pulau Ubin
Shaped like a boomerang, Pulau Ubin is situated just off the north-eastern corner of mainland Singapore. Once a cluster of five smaller islands separated by tidal rivers, it has since been united by the building of bunds for prawn farming to become a single 1,020-hectare island. Two other islands, Pulau Ketam (Crab Island) and Pulau Sekudu (Frog Island) lie to its south. Pulau Ubin is fenced off in the North to deter smugglers from Malaysia, you can still find fishing farms in the North but mostly on the Southern side.
